It is a BIodegradable and COMpostable REcyclable film that has an advantage over the bioplastics of the rest of the competitors since it improves weight, densities and production costs. It is based on an enzymatic technology that is a complex of 9 main ingredients derived from vegetable by-products.
This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 849533.
The research of the REBICOM project consists of achieving the transformation by current methods of manufacture of films based on standard thermoplastic polymers of fossil origin or of renewable origin, in biodegradable and compostable without losing the capacity of recyclability, reuse and the innocuousness for people and the environment.
What is Horizon 2020?
The European Union concentrates a large part of its research and innovation activities in the Framework Programme, which in this edition will be called Horizon 2020 (H2020). In the period 2014-2020 and through the implementation of three pillars, it contributes to addressing the main social challenges, promoting industrial leadership in Europe and reinforcing the excellence of its scientific base. The available budget will amount to 76,880 million euros.
Horizon 2020 integrates for the first time all phases from knowledge generation to activities closer to the market: basic research, technology development, demonstration projects, pilot manufacturing lines, social innovation, technology transfer, proof of concept, standardisation, support for pre-commercial public procurement, venture capital and guarantee system.
